The Department of Energy's Office of Science has established a temporary program to match faculty and students displaced by Hurricane Katrina with research programs that currently receive DOE grants and are willing to host such individuals. In a letter he sent to other federal science agencies, DOE leadership, and higher education communities, Office of Science Director Ray Orbach announced that a clearinghouse has been set up with the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) to facilitate the matches. Beware Internet Scam
For Katrina Relief

Although it is possible to donate via the web to many legitimate charities for Hurricane Katrina relief, an unprecedented number of scammers, worm authors and credit card phishers have risen in the wake. Beware of pseudo-charities that act as false fronts for organizations you may not wish to associate with. Do not give your credit card or social security number to any organization until you have verified its legitimacy. Guidelines on Reporting
Incidents Now Online

The Lab's Environment, Health and Safety Division has upgraded its website with guidelines on how to report emergencies and non-emergency incidents. Memorial Service
For Lab Life Scientist

A memorial service for Berkeley Lab life scientist Bea Fraenkel-Conrat (Singer), who passed away on July 20, will be held Friday, Sept. 23 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Faculty Club's Great Hall (campus). Those interested in attending should contact Amy Ukena.

Of Lab PA System

The monthly test of the Lab's hill-wide public address system will take place tomorrow at 10 a.m. Employees who cannot hear the address should contact their building manager or Nikki De Jager to let them know.
