Chu Keynote at Chicago
Energy Symposium

Chu

Steve Chu, director of Berkeley Lab, will deliver the keynote address at the Northwestern University-Argonne Energy Symposium today at Northwestern University. Chu will discuss "The World's Energy Problem and What We Can Do About It." The talk will focus on areas of research that may lead to transformative technologies needed to solve the problem. Chu gave presented lectures on “What We Can Learn From Single Molecule Experiments of biological Systems,” and “Coherent Control of Ultra-Cold Matter” on Wednesday and Thursday for Northwestern’s Physics Department. Memorial for Chemla
On Campus May 10

Chemla

A memorial for Daniel Chemla, the former director of Berkeley Lab’s Advanced Light Source, will be held Saturday, May 10, from  10 a.m. to noon in Pimentel Hall, located on the UC Berkeley campus. A reception will follow from noon to 2 p.m. at the Men’s Faculty Club. Chemla died on March 20, after a four-year illness caused by a stroke. Go here to read a full obituary on Chemla.

Radiation Measurements,
Applications Symposium

A symposium on Radiation Measurements and Applications will be held on the UC Berkeley campus June 2-5. The symposium will offer a diverse program, encompassing the full breadth of ionizing radiation measurement applications and technologies, with both oral and poster presentations. The event is being jointly hosted by Berkeley Lab, with Stephen Derenzo (Life Sciences Division) serving as the organizing committee’s general chair. Go here for more information.
