Revamped Lab Websites
To Launch in Early June

As part of an effort to upgrade Berkeley Lab’s web presence, the Communications Department (Public Affairs) will unveil a revamped home page and Today at Berkeley Lab e-mail, and launch a News Center in early June. The websites, which harness recent advances in design, multi-media content, and information distribution, will make it easier for Lab staff and other audiences to access general information, employee news, science updates, feature stories and YouTube videos of Lab lectures, among other resources. Go here for more information.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Solar Energy-to-Fuel
Theatre Talk Tonight

Lewis

Nate Lewis, with Berkeley Lab’s Solar Energy Research Center, presents the next “Science at the Theatre” talk tonight at 5:30 p.m. in the Berkeley Repertory Theatre. He will discuss “Capturing Solar Energy for Transportation Fuel." The challenge of capturing solar energy and storing it as an affordable transportation fuel, says Lewis, requires developing new materials that can use abundant and inexpensive elements. The talk is free and open to the public. Go here for more information.

Rep From Outdoor
Group Here Tomorrow

Tomorrow, between noon and 1 p.m., Cathy Moyer, the executive director of Volunteers for Outdoor California, will be stationed in the cafeteria lobby to answer questions about her organization. Outdoor California is a Bay Area non-profit that conducts large weekend-long trail construction  and maintenance, and habitat restoration projects on public lands  throughout Northern California. Those interested in volunteering can stop by to visit with Moyer to get more information.

Cal Commencement
Ceremonies to Start

This coming weekend marks the start of commencement season for neighboring UC Berkeley. These festivities, while joyous for those involved, can create traffic nightmares for those trying to get to and from the Lab. Go here to view a complete schedule of ceremonies. Several Berkeley Lab scientists are providing commencement speeches, including EETD veteran Art Rosenfeld, Randy Schekman (Life Sciences), and John Prausnitz (Chemical Sciences). The main Commencement Convocation takes place tomorrow at 4 p.m. in the Greek Theatre.
