DOE CFO Visits Lab

DOE Chief Financial Officer Steve Isakowitz and Deputy CFO Owen Barwell visited the Lab on Wednesday to meet with Director Chu, CFO Jeffrey Fernandez and other Lab scientific and operations staff. While here they toured the ALS, NCEM, the Molecular Foundry and the Bevatron. In addition to briefings on the Helios program, life sciences and computing research, there were discussions about Lab infrastructure and financial issues. Director Chu Featured On Science Education Site

Several interviews with Director Steve Chu are showcased on a website designed to inspire the next generation of engineers and scientists. The Honeywell – Nobel Initiative establishes a forum for students worldwide to learn directly from Nobel Laureates in Chemistry and Physics. Chu discusses his Nobel Prize-winning research, the energy problem, and science as a profession, among other topics. Other Nobel lectures feature such luminaries as Roger Kornberg, Leon Lederman, and in the future, George Smoot.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Tips For Making
Office Moves Safe

image

If there is one constant here at the Lab, it is the likelihood that employees will move their office once or more during their tenure here. The EHS Division provides tips to make your move as safe as possible, and reminds employees that moving offers the opportunity to remove old files to archives, and recycle all paper, diskettes, and transparencies. Employees, as well as their supervisors and work leads, are reminded to keep an eye out for and prevent unsafe and risky practices before, during and after the move. Full story.
