ESnet and Internet2 Networks Partner
The Department of Energy's Energy Sciences Network (ESnet) and Internet2 — two of the nation's leading networking organizations dedicated to research — yesterday announced a partnership to deploy a highly reliable, high capacity nationwide network that will greatly enhance the capabilities of those who participate in DOE scientific research efforts. The partnership brings together two advanced networks, which have a combined 30 years of experience in providing network support to thousands of researchers around the world. By comparing the complete genome sequences of two plant-killing pathogens and related organisms, researchers from the U.S. Department of Energy Joint Genome Institute (DOE JGI), in collaboration with the Virginia Bioinformatics Institute (VBI) and others, have uncovered crucial aspects of the disease-causing mechanisms of "Sudden Oak Death" (SOD) and soybean root rot disease. Effective immediately, the Laboratory has updated its policies on Reasonable Accommodation and Medical Separation. The revised polices include an interactive process when reasonable accommodation is being considered for an employee who is unable to perform essential functions of his or her position due to disability.
