Get Well(ness) and More
At Today’s Info Fair

Employees visiting today’s second annual Summer Wellness Fair on the cafeteria lawn will find loads of information on health care benefits, retirement, financial management, and club activities. But there’s more – free chair massages, blood pressure and Body Mass Index (BMI) checks, a barbecue, a “Farmer’s Market,” and live music on the stage. It all happens from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., sponsored by Berkeley Lab’s Health Care Facilitator. Lab Director Steve Chu and Human Resources Director Larry Hanson are scheduled to talk between 12:15 and 12:45 p.m.

COMPUTING NEWS

Beware of Viruses
That Forge E-mail

Employees may have seen a surge in forged e-mails recently. Viruses and worms can send messages that appear to come from you or someone you know. If you've recently received suspicious messages that seem to come from your e-mail address, delete them. For more information about the IT Division's virus wall and forged e-mails, go here.

IN THE NEWS

Lab Lighting Experts
Cited in Science Series

In a two-part series published in Science News, writer Janet Raloff discusses questions surrounding lighting’s environmental and human impacts. In Part One, entitled “Illuminating Changes – Conventional Light Bulbs May Soon be Obsolete,” Berkeley Lab Environmental Energy Technologies’ Evan Mills and Steve Johnson are among the commentators. Part Two, “Hue and Timing Determine Whether Rays are Beneficial or Detrimental,” includes the Lab’s Sam Berman and his study of Michigan students performing under different colors of light.
