Nanofuel Cells Provide
Remote Power Potential

Lux
Berkeley Lab materials scientist Kenneth Lux has demonstrated a fuel cell measuring just 200 nanometers across that potentially can be integrated on-chip to supply power from a hydrogen reservoir for decades. "We are building nanoscale fuel cells from the bottom up instead from the top down, like the automobile makers," said Lux. Full story. Note: The article incorrectly describes the fuel cells as being folded. Go here to read a description from Lux on the cell array.

Light Source Website
Celebrates First Birthday

spacer image
One year ago, lightsources.org — the only website to comprehensively feature news, information and educational materials about the world's synchrotron radiation and free electron laser (light source) facilities — was launched. Since then, more than 150 press releases and 600 press items have been posted and distributed to subscribers, and it receives over 100,000 hits a month. The site is sponsored by 21 of the world's major light sources, including Berkeley Lab's Advanced Light Source. Go here to view lightsources.org.

Oluseyi
A Look
At the Work
Of Black Scientists
By Keely Parrack

Because February is Black History Month, the Monitor is celebrating the contributions that African-Americans have made to science. Profiled here are three black scientists who are making history with their groundbreaking work. Hakeem Oluseyi, a former Berkeley Lab physicist (currently teaching at the University of Alabama) is collaborating with the Lab's SNAP (Supernova Acceleration Probe) mission. Full story.
