SNAP

SNAP Wins NASA Support For Dark Energy Mission

NASA has announced that it will support an advanced mission concept study for the SNAP experiment, proposed by Berkeley Lab and the Space Sciences Laboratory at UC Berkeley for NASA and DOE's Joint Dark Energy Mission (JDEM). "As one of three groups chosen by NASA for further development of the Joint Dark Energy Mission, we are pleased that NASA is interested in our approach to the problem with the SNAP concept," said Berkeley Lab Director Steven Chu. "DOE and NASA have provided funding to us in the past for our approach, and it is a very good sign that the two agencies are moving forward together on the project." Full story.

Bioengineering Registration
Deadline is Tomorrow

The deadline to register for the bioengineering industrial liaison day is tomorrow. The event, hosted by UC Berkeley's Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society, or CITRUS, will be on Tuesday, Aug. 15, in the Bechtel Engineering Center's Sibley Auditorium. Berkeley Lab speakers include Adam Arkin, Steve Conolly, Jay Keasling, Dan Fletcher, and Graham Fleming. A complete agenda can be viewed here.

Storeroom Closure

To comply with DOE accounting procedures, the Central Storeroom (Building 78) will be closed to take inventory on Thursday, Aug. 17. Employees should plan their needs accordingly. People with a critical requirement for material on Aug. 17 should call x5087.
