China's Nuclear Plans
Not Enough - Lab Expert

Beijing has pledged over $48 billion toward the construction of new nuclear reactors by the year 2020, the state-run China Daily reported yesterday. Kang Rixin, president of China National Nuclear, announced plans to quadruple the country's nuclear capacity to 16 gigawatts (GW) from the current 4 GW. But even this represents just a small fraction of energy-hungry China's appetite. "China would need to build one new 1 gigawatt reactor every week in order to keep pace just with current energy demand growth," said Jiang Lin, an energy researcher at Berkeley Lab.

on Fidelity Savings Plan

Beginning in July, participant account and record-keeping services for the Defined Contribution Plan (DC Plan) and Tax Deferred 403(b) Plan will be provided by Fidelity Investments Tax-Exempt Services Company (FITSCO), which already provides these services for the 457(b) Deferred Compensation Plan. Together, the three plans will be known as the University of California Retirement Savings Program. One-hour employee information sessions are scheduled next Wednesday and July 7. At Rutkowskis' Farewell

Henry and Linda Rutkowski

The Accelerator and Fusion Research Division - home of scientist Henry Rutkowski - and the Sponsored Projects Office - where Henry's wife Linda is a contracts officer - are inviting Berkeley Lab staff to join them in celebrating the Rutkowskis' retirement at a luncheon on June 17. Their 44 years of combined service to the University and Lab will be honored at Skates on the Bay, beginning at 11:30 a.m. Reservations are due by next Monday to Sarah Wan.

Women's Forum to Meet
June 13 to Discuss Issues

The Women's Forum will meet on Monday, June 13, in Perseverance Hall from noon to 1 p.m., when issues identified at April's meeting of the group will be discussed. All interested employees are invited to participate. The topics include leadership training/succession planning, mentoring in the workplace, flexible work schedules/job sharing/telecommuting, child care/eldercare, and congressional awareness.
