SPECIAL EVENT

Museum Celebrates
100 Years of Nobel Prize

The Exploratorium science museum in San Francisco is sponsoring the U.S. West Coast premiere of a 5,000-square-foot exhibition that began in the Nobel Museum in Sweden. The show, beginning Thursday through October 2, provides a historic overview of the prize and its founder, Alfred Nobel. Director Steve Chu — one of 10 Nobel Laureates who have called Berkeley Lab home — will be featured in one of the special programs being planned in conjunction with the exhibit. He will speak at the Commonwealth Club public affairs program on "The Nobel Prize, Managing Science and Solving the World Energy Crisis," on Thursday, July 21, at 6:30 p.m. Go here for more on the Nobel celebration.

New Session for Lab
Weight Watchers Group

The Lab's on-site Weight Watchers group will begin a new session on Wednesday, July 27. An open session will be held Wednesday, July 20 for those who want to gather more information before joining. The group meets every Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m. Cost for the 14-week session is $167.30, which can be paid in three installments of $55.77. Those interested in joining or returning for the next session should contact Cathy Wentworth (x5334).

Listen Up for Test
Of Lab PA System

The monthly test of the Lab's hill-wide public address system will take place tomorrow at 10 a.m. Employees who cannot hear the address can contact their building manager or Nikki De Jager to let them know.

Deadline Clarification
For Ordering Furniture

A previous announcement in Today at Berkeley Lab listed Friday as the deadline for ordering new furniture with FY05 funds, if design work is needed. While this is true when ordering from outside vendors, such as Steelcase, Berkeley Lab customers can order custom furniture from the Facilities Cabinet Shop through the second week in September. If you are considering using the Cabinet Shop, call the Work Request Center (x6274), or contact the shop directly (x4234), and they can confirm if the order can be completed by the end of the fiscal year.
