SPECIAL EVENTS

Tickets Still Available
For Summer Dance Gala

Berkeley Lab's Dance Club and Latino and Native American (LANA) cultural group are joining forces to host a benefit Summer Gala Dance on Saturday. All proceeds benefit LANA's scholarship fund. Employees and their friends and families are invited. It takes place at the Lake Merritt Dance Center (200 Grand Ave., Oakland), and costs $10 per person, $15 for couples. Two dance lessons will be given at 7:30 p.m. Tickets will be sold during the noon hour on Wednesday and Friday.

Outdoor Club Hosts
Full-Moon Hike

The Lab's Outdoors Club invites employees to enjoy the wonder and beauty of Mount Tamalpais in Marin County from a nighttime perspective. They are hosting a full moon, two-mile, ranger-guided approximately two-hour hike on Saturday at 8 p.m. Those interested in participating should contact Dinah Levy for more details.

SAFETY NOTE

Electrical Near Miss
Offers Lessons in Safety

Recently, an employee cut into an electrical conduit that was believed to be de-energized, shorting live 120 VAC electrical wires. No one was injured, but the near-miss incident underscores several important safety policies. Go here to review these policies and access additional information on electrical safety.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Reminder: Ergo Fair
Tomorrow, Wednesday

The Lab's Environment, Health, and Safety Division will host its annual Ergonomics Fair tomorrow and Wednesday, on the cafeteria lawn, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Employees can meet vendors, test out equipment, and learn safety tips. There will also be complimentary five-minute chair massages between noon and 1 p.m. For more information, contact Jeffrey Chung (x5818).

Cafeteria Parking Limited Next Two Days

Due to the Ergonomic Fair taking place on the cafeteria lawn tomorrow and Wednesday, parking in the adjacent lot (K-1) will be limited. Twenty-five spaces will be devoted to vendors participating in this event. Those who normally park here are encouraged to use other lots, or alternative transportation, such as the Lab Shuttle Bus service.

Facilities Schedules
Electrical Switching Today

The Facilities Electric Shop will be performing 115-kV switching at the Grizzly Peak Substation. Switching will begin at approximately noon and continue until approximately 4 p.m. today. The procedures will be transparent to the Laboratory community and it is highly unlikely that an interruption of power will occur. However, the possibility of an electrical power interruption always exists. Please take all necessary precautions. A Hill-wide public address announcement will be made prior to switching. For more information please contact Jim Murphy at x4175 or Mahesh Gupta at x5220.
