Get Ergonomics Tips
At Fair Next Week
The Lab's Environment, Health, and Safety Division will host its annual Ergonomics Fair next Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 16 and 17, on the Cafeteria lawn from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This event is an opportunity for employees to visit with vendors and see the latest in ergonomics furniture, accessories, tools and pipettes. Attendees will learn more about ways to minimize the risk of repetitive motion injuries in the office, lab and shop. There will also be complimentary five-minute chair massages between noon and 1 pm. Lab Air Expert to Monitor
Noxious Fumes in City
The City of Berkeley and Pacific Steel Casting have agreed to study the source of the burning rubber smell wafting from the company's West Berkeley plant. Since March, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District has issued three violation notices against Pacific Steel for emitting a foul stench from its facilities. The study will be prepared by consultants, with a monitor assigned from Berkeley Lab. Full story.

Chu Commonwealth Club Talk on Radio Aug. 9
Berkeley Lab Director Steve Chu's July 21 talk at San Francisco's Commonwealth Club, "The Nobel Prize, Managing Science and Solving the World Energy Crisis," will be re-broadcast on Tuesday, Aug. 9, at 1 p.m., on KALW-FM, 91.7 on the dial.
It's Play-Off Time
For Softball League
The top six teams in the Lab's softball league will participate in play-off competition starting this Wednesday. At 6 p.m., sixth-place holder TBD will face the undefeated Rated X team. Also at 6 p.m., Silver & Black compete against Hit & Run. At 7:15 p.m., SUDZ will battle Ballpark Estimates. Last week's scores were Silver & Black over the Animals 16-4, Rated X over SUDZ, 11-1, and Hit & Run tied with TBD, 9-9.
