Sally's Alley Gets New
Sign to Cement Memory

Most people at Berkeley Lab know the narrow lane between Buildings 7 and 16 as Sally's Alley, a name bestowed many years ago in honor of the late former employee Sally Bemis, a secretary in the Electronics Department in Building 16. When an old sign on the adjacent retaining wall was removed and destroyed during recent repaving, Facilities' Steve Blair decided that history needed to be preserved. Thus he and co-worker Miguel Pena sealed a lasting impression of "Sally's Alley" last Friday into the freshly poured concrete of a repaired stairway next to the road.

FACES AT THE LAB

Wentworth
Keeping Us Healthy
While We Work

Meet Cathy Wentworth. She is a registered nurse for Health Services, within the Lab’s Environment, Health and Safety Division. Her job entails treating employees who get injured both on and off-site and providing follow-up care, consultations, and referrals, if needed. She also conducts physicals and hearing tests, and is the coordinator of the Lab’s on-site Weight Watchers program. “Helping staff get well and feel better is very gratifying,” says Wentworth of her job. When not tending to Lab employees, she can be found horseback riding and jumping, or camping with her family, who live in Crockett.

Ends Nov. 30

Open enrollment ends at midnight on Nov. 30. All changes made during open enrollment will be effective Jan. 1, 2005. For those biweekly employees with direct deposit, the deposits will be this Friday as usual. Deposit advices will be delivered by Monday to the employees' mailstops. Checks for JGI biweekly employees will be available at the JGI this Wednesday. Contact Carol Bruzzone for the pickup schedule. Checks for biweekly employees on campus will be delivered to their campus mailstops this Wednesday in the afternoon mail delivery.

A/V Services to Some Conference Rooms Eliminated
