UC Mandates Online
Ethics Briefing for Staff
A message from Lab Director Steve Chu to all employees:
The University of California Office of the President believes all employees should be familiar with and live up to the Statement of Ethical Values and the Standards of Ethical Conduct.which were adopted by the UC Regents in May 2005. To promote these values in the workplace, the University is requiring all UC and Berkeley Lab employees to take an online Ethics Briefing. Employees will be receiving their briefing notice via e-mail on Thursday. Senior Lab Management has already taken the online briefing. Extending it to the rest of the Laboratory staff provides all of us at Berkeley Lab with a common frame of reference for ethical conduct at the Laboratory. I encourage all employees and supervisors to take time to focus seriously on the issues raised by the briefing. The ethical values we hold in common and communicate to others in the Lab are crucial for the success of Berkeley Lab. (More details are available in this Director's memo to employees)

A second meeting will be held on March 22 at 2 p.m. The new policies are undergoing a 30-day review and can be read here.

Nearly 19,500 Assets Found; 1,370 Still Uncounted
Thanks to the diligence of many employees, nearly 19,500 assets have been scanned since the start of the Lab's wall-to-wall inventory in January, totaling about $570 million. As the March 31 deadline looms, there are 1,368 assets worth approximately $60 million yet to be counted. Everyone is encouraged to work with property management representatives to help account for these remaining items.
