Seminar to Explore
Lessons of Chernobyl

Kravets
The lessons and remaining problems of the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear plant disaster are the subject of a seminar on Thursday at noon in the Building 50 auditorium. Alexandra Kravets, a Fulbright Scholar and a professor at Ukraine's Shevchenko Kiev National University who has studied the accident extensively, will discuss post-Chernobyl ecological and biological investigations. She will also focus on the problems of protracted low dose exposure. Contact Alyce Herrera (x4261) to RSVP for the event, which is sponsored by the Environment, Health and Safety Division. More information on Kravets is available here.

More Protein Structures
In Research Pipeline

An article published last week in the Early Online Edition of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences describes the development of a genomic and structural-analytical approach that promises to rescue partner proteins from obscurity. The data sets for this research were collected at Berkeley Lab's Advanced Light Source, beamline 8.2.2. Full story.
