SPECIAL EVENTS

Foundry Dedication Will
Preview Things to Come

Berkeley Lab's state-of-the-art new nanoscience building, the Molecular Foundry, won't officially open for business until technical equipment is installed later this spring. But the excitement of new discoveries and research advances will be celebrated next Friday when the Foundry will be dedicated by Lab, DOE and university officials, political leaders, and scientists. The 10:30 a.m. ceremony is on the fifth floor. Since seating is limited, a special tour program this spring will allow employees to get an inside look at the Lab's newest national user facility.

Regents Agree to Reinstate UCRP Contributions

The UC Board of Regents yesterday approved a series of actions aimed at ensuring the stability of the UC Retirement Plan (UCRP). The actions include: a targeted funding level of 100 percent over the long term, and for university and UCRP member contributions at the rates necessary to maintain that level within a range of 95 percent to 110 percent; a multi-year contribution strategy under which contribution rates will increase gradually over time to 16 percent of covered earnings, based on UCRP's current normal cost; and the resumption of UCRP contributions effective July 2007, subject to funding and completion of the budget process.
