SAFETY NOTE

Riptide

Beach Safety Tip:
Avoid Rip Currents

Rip currents, which are powerful currents of water flowing away from shore, are very dangerous beach hazards that kill nearly 100 Americans each year. In the Bay Area, several swimmers are caught each summer in rip currents and either drown or are rescued. To educate people about the dangers of rip currents, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) named June 4-10 Rip Current Awareness Week. For more information on how to spot and avoid rip currents, visit this NOAA website.
