Give Gift of Music
To Your Valentine
Want to give your valentine something different than the traditional box of chocolates? How about the gift of live music? UC Berkeley's Choral Ensembles are offering singing valentines. Members of the group can be hired to visit that special someone's office to sing two love songs in four-part harmony. Recipients will also receive a long-stemmed rose and a card. Prices range from $20 to $50. To reserve a group for your valentine, call 642-3880 or send e-mail here. Remember to make security gate arrangements for the singers.

Electrical Failure Alerts
Staff to Inspections
When a Berkeley Lab employee recently connected high-voltage power cords, a serious electrical failure occurred, which burned and melted the plastic plug ends and could have posed a serious safety hazard. When a circuit breaker for the computer room was tripped, an investigation found that the cause was a faulty cord cap assembly associated with a power distribution unit. A further inspection of similar plugs stored for future use revealed that one of them had the four wires so loosely attached that they could be pulled free from the clamps. This could lead to a similar meltdown. Lesson learned: always inspect cords and plugs before using them, even if the equipment is new.
