Since 2002, former Berkeley Lab Accelerator and Fusion Research Deputy Director Alan Jackson has been on leave in Australia as technical director for that country's new light source. On a recent return to this Lab, Jackson announced that the Australian Light Source has achieved "first light" in only three years from the initial funding announcement. It turns out that Berkeley Lab was instrumental in the success. Go here to read Jackson's report, and here to learn more about the new synchrotron.
