Savings on LHS Classes
For Lab Employees' Kids
The Lawrence Hall of Science is offering after-school science and math enrichment classes for pre-schoolers through high schoolers at a discount to Berkeley Lab employees. The classes meet for an hour weekly for four or eight-week sessions beginning at 2:30 or 4 p.m. The spring session begins next week. Many classes still have room for additional enrollments. The reduced member rate is in effect for all Berkeley Lab employees. Call the LHS Registration Office at 642-5134, or register online here. Use the member price when enrolling, and when prompted for membership number, use "LBNL."
Vehicle Mileage Reports
Are Now Due
Fleet Operations requests all vehicle custodians to report their monthly mileage immediately, even if they have gone to the pumps, since the computer system that usually provides this information is currently unavailable. Include the vehicle license number and the current mileage on the odometer. E-mail your report to [email protected].

Senate Bill Would Ease
Contracting With Labs
Legislation pending in Sacramento would make it easier for state agencies to contract with federal laboratories like Berkeley Lab to conduct state-funded research. Right now, such research partnerships are limited by conflicting state and federal rules. The Lab's Head of the Sponsored Projects Office, Jeff Weiner, offered expert testimony regarding the impact of the bill, SB 1629, at a hearing last week before the Senate Committee on Government Modernization, Efficiency and Accountability. It still faces consideration by the full Senate and the Assembly. To read the bill, which was authored by Sen. Jackie Speier (D-San Mateo), go here. |

Changes to LBLnet
Affect Off-Site Domains
At noon on Saturday, the Lab's network, LBLnet, will be changing its Domain Name Servers (DNS) to prevent the distribution of information about non-Berkeley Lab domains from off-site. Users who have manually configured their DNS on systems such as laptops, will want to return to default settings. For details, contact the IT Help Desk (x4357).
