SPECIAL EVENT

Earth Day Talk
On Turbines

Van Buskirk
Robert Van Buskirk, with the Lab's Environmental Energy Technologies Division, will screen a video he has produced on the construction of wind turbines in Eritrea today at noon in Building 50-5026. The turbines will bring power to several villages, some of which have never had electricity. A press release on Van Buskirk's work is available here. His talk is part of the Lab's Earth Day celebration.

Study on Renewable
Energy Credits

Renewable energy certificates (REC) are increasingly important, especially in states that accept them as evidence of compliance with renewable portfolio standards. The emergence of RECs as a tradable commodity has made utilities, generators and regulators increasingly aware of the need to specify who owns the RECs in energy transactions, according to a new report by Ryan Wiser and Mark Bolinger, with Berkeley Lab's Environmental Energy Technologies Division, and subcontractor Ed Holt. Full story.

SAFETY NOTE

Drivers: Keep an Eye On Centennial Drive

The large amounts of rain over the past month have taken a toll on Bay Area roads, including Centennial Drive, which starts at the west end of Memorial Stadium on campus and runs past both the Strawberry Canyon and Grizzly Peak entrances to the Lab. Some damage to the shoulder of the road has occurred in this area, and the asphalt has become uneven in some spots. Crews are working to correct these issues, which at times may cause traffic interruption, over the next few months. Drivers can go here to get updates on access and repair work.
