Honeywell-Nobel Forum

Berkeley Lab Director Steve Chu is among the first of three Nobel Laureates that will participate in the "Honeywell Nobel Interactive Studio," an online forum in which winners discuss the science behind their prizes. It is part of a global science initiative between Honeywell International and the Nobel Foundation that enables students worldwide to learn directly from Laureates in chemistry and physics. The program will be launched in July. Go here for more information.

Director Receives Duke Honorary Degree





Chu

Duke University, located in Durham NC, will award four honorary degrees during its May 14 commencement ceremony. Among the recipients is Lab Director Steve Chu. Others include broadcast journalist Nina Totenberg and James Wyngaarden, former director of the National Institutes of Health. Go here for more information.

Traffic Controls Near
Blackberry Gate

To accommodate the trimming of trees along Cyclotron Road tomorrow, traffic controls will be put into place. Employees are cautioned to expect some minimal delays around this area. The project is anticipated to take about four hours. The work will most likely take place in the morning, but weather conditions will determine the actual start time. New Circulation and
Overdue Policy at Library

After careful consideration with the Lab's Library Committee, the library has updated its book circulation policy, effective July 1. Books will be loaned for a period of 60 days. At the end of 60 days, patrons may physically return the book and check it out again, if no one else has requested it. There will no longer be online renewals. For details, go here.
