China's Energy in SABL

The latest edition of the webzine SABL (Science at Berkeley Lab) is hot off the cyber press, full of stories on current research taking place here. Among the topics covered are why older people suffer more bone fractures, slicing x-rays by the millionths of a billionth of a second, and taking measure of China's energy strategy. Electronics Engineers
Invited to Workshop

Razdon
Berkeley Lab electronics engineers who design computer generated models are invited to attend a workshop on "Using SPICE with LabVIEW and Signal Express," tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. in Perseverance Hall. The workshop will be led by Ash Razdon of National Instruments, who will show attendees how they can reduce the number of design iterations and increase measurement productivity. Free pizza will be served.

Plan Afoot to Keep Staff Salaries Competitive

A University of California Board of Regents committee has recommended that a system be developed that would bring the salaries of all UC employees up to market rate within 10 years. The committee also suggested Regents have more control in the setting of leadership salaries. Full story.

Former EETD Employee
Polansky Passes Away

Polansky
Cindy Polansky, who began work at the Lab in 1979 for what was then called the Environment and Energy Division, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 14. Polansky worked in the Division's California Institute for Energy & Environment unit as an administrator. In 2000, the unit became a part of the University of California Office of the President, although Polansky retained guest-employee status at Berkeley Lab. A memorial service is being planned.
