Lab Materials Scientist
Pens Science Perspective

Crommie

One of the key questions facing researchers studying molecular electronic devices is what happens when molecules come in contact with metals. A subtle effect known as the Kondo resonance offers one way to study these contacts. In a Science Magazine "Perspective," Berkeley Lab materials scientist Michael Crommie discusses results of the Kondo effect in a single molecule on a gold surface. Full story.

SPECIAL EVENT

Free Registration Still
Open for Townes Event

Townes

It's not too late for Berkeley Lab scientists, staff and students to register for free admission to the Oct. 6-8 symposium honoring Nobel Laureate Charles Townes at UC Berkeley. This offer is available only with advance registration and does not include meals. Identification is required upon check-in at the symposium. "Amazing Light: Visions for Discovery" honors the 90th year of physicist Townes' life. The program seeks to honor his vision and share it with new generations of research physicists, as well as explore possibilities for new discoveries about the nature of reality. Go here for more information, and here to register.

In addition to general information that will be distributed to the entire Lab community, there are specific activities and deadlines that directly affect finance and business management staff. Go here for more information on fiscal close.
