Chu '04 Conversation
On UCTV Broadcast

Berkeley Lab Director Steve Chu is among the Nobel Laureates who will be featured on "The Teacher's PET," (Professional Education for Teachers) program, produced by the University of California's UCTV. The show, "A Scientist's Random Walk," will air first at 4 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 7. Chu's conversation with UC Berkeley's Harry Kreisler about scientific inquiry and the evolution of Chu's own research interests was videotaped in February 2004, part of UC Berkeley's Institute of International Studies series of "Conversations with History." UCTV airs locally on Berkeley Community TV (channel 33). Go here for a schedule of other showings.

Physical Biosciences
Hosts Diversity Day

The Lab's Physical Biosciences Division hosted a first-of-its-kind Diversity Day and barbecue for its employees last Tuesday. It featured a roundtable discussion among Division Director Jay Keasling, scientists William Lester and Judith Klinman, and Harry Reed, chief diversity officer and Lab ombudsperson. As a pilot for the entire lab, the event brought diversity to the forefront and honored several division members for exemplifying the division's commitment to fostering a diverse workplace.
