Lab Researchers Contribute To Energy Dialogue

Environmental Energy Technologies Division researchers recently contributed to two new articles on energy conservation in Forbes.com. One article, co-authored by Evan Mills, "Transversing The Valley of Death," explores the transitioning of emerging energy technologies from R&D to the marketplace. The other, "High-Tech Means High-Efficiency," by Evan Mills, William Tschudi and other contributors, features ways in which integrating energy efficient improvements into the building design of high-tech facilities can result in billions of dollars of potential energy savings.

Agarwal

Deb Agarwal, who heads Computing Science’s Distributed Systems Department, along with Yoram Rubin, a professor in Civil Engineering on campus, were recently awarded a $35,000 grant from Microsoft’s Technology Computing Initiative. Their research proposal, “Combining Disparate Donated HPC Computational Resources into an Integrated Environment,” explains how synthesis in hydrology can be aided through development of a user portal. The new portal would provide mechanisms for researchers to authenticate and launch computations by choosing a model, a dataset, and a computational resource.
