                                Levine, Division Director of Environmental
Energy Technologies, appeared Tuesday on a live
segment of the CNBC program "Bullseye."
He and host Dylan Ratigan discussed energy efficiency
in the context of rising oil prices, and whether
efficiency measures have made a difference over
the years in energy usage and cost. Levine pointed
out the notable savings realized through the development
of more efficient refrigerators, appliances, building
                                controls, and automobiles. Go here

Jock Fugitt, a senior technical associate in the Lab's Engineering Division from 1963 to 1974, then again from 1977 to 1992, passed away last month. According to former colleague Art Ritchie (with the Advanced Light Source), Fugitt helped implement several upgrades to the Super Hilac during its heyday, the 1960s through 1980s. He received a prestigious DOE Energy Savings Award for work he did to the main accelerator radio frequency system.

Foundry Contractor VowsFinish by Year's End
Rudolph and Sletten General Contractors have announced that it has completed the "topping off" of structural steel for the Molecular Foundry at Berkeley Lab and will finish construction of the nanotech research facility by the end of the year. In a press release, the company describes the special challenges that it faces in putting together the six-story, $85 million hillside structure, including "an environment that is quiet from a vibrational and air movement standpoint, as well as free of airborne and electromagnetic interferences," according to Berkeley Lab project manager Joe Harkins.
