Lab nuclear scientist Robert Stokstad will discuss the construction of a telescope — with a light-collecting mirror buried under a South Pole ice cap that will look through the Earth at North Pole skies — at the next "Friends of Science" lecture. The talk, "IceCube: The Telescope in Search of Neutrinos," takes place next Monday at the Berkeley Library (2090 Kittredge St.) at 5:30 p.m. Parking is limited in the area, so alternative transportation is encouraged. The Lab's Technology Transfer Department is hosting a seminar that provides information on Lab science that has been successfully licensed and commercialized, the technology transfer process, and the invention disclosure and evaluation process. The event takes place at 11 a.m. tomorrow in Building 84-318.

Lab Employees Invited
To 'Rebuild Together'

The Albany-Berkeley- Emeryville and San Francisco chapters of "Rebuilding Together," a national volunteer organization that provides free improvements for the homes of low-income seniors and people with disabilities, are recruiting volunteers for their April 30 project. Berkeley Lab employees are invited to participate on Energy Teams that will go from house to house installing simple energy and water efficiency measures. Lab employees who park in downtown Berkeley should be aware that the city's Police Department will today start stepping up efforts to identify meter violations. They will double-check the functionality of meters that are labeled broken, chalk-mark tires to thwart illegal meter feeding, and request identification and evidence of disabled placard issuance. Fines can range from $30 to $1,000, depending on the violation. More information about commuting options for staff can be found here.

Shares Delivery Tips

The Lab's Receiving Department would like to share some helpful tips to ensure employees receive their packages in a timely fashion. For example, those who have changed locations or expanded delivery needs should contact Denise Washington (x4935) to make updates. Also, personal items should not be sent the Lab. When contacting Receiving (x4963), be sure to have a tracking number, PO number, or vendor name. Go here to check the status of pending deliveries.
