Lab Rad Control Head
Named to Dose Panel

Zeman

Gary Zeman, who heads Berkeley Lab's Radiation Protection Group in Environment, Health and Safety, is one of 16 members appointed to the federal Veterans' Advisory Board on Dose Reconstruction. The panel was established by the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to audit radiation dose reconstructions and VA claims decisions for service connection of radiogenic diseases, and to improve communications with veterans. These dose reconstructions are used by VA to evaluate and decide claims by veterans and prisoners of war during the Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan, occupation (1945-1946) and veterans of U.S.-sponsored atmospheric nuclear weapons tests (1945-1962). Men Asked to Focus
On Health This Week

Berkeley Lab's Health Care Facilitator office wants employees to know that Men's Health Week starts today. The event is designed to heighten the awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of diseases among men and boys. The week leading up to Father's Day gives health care providers an opportunity to encourage men to seek regular medical advice and early treatment for heart, prostate, colon, and other diseases. Age-appropriate screenings can improve men's health and reduce premature death and disabilities. For more information, go here.
