Computer simulation of turbulent flames

Berkeley Lab computational and combustion scientists earned national recognition in the July 19 issue of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences with their cover article about unparalleled computer simulations of turbulent flames. The research by scientists in the Center for Computational Sciences and Engineering and the Environmental Energy Technologies Division has led to a three-dimensional combustion simulation of unmatched size. Last Call For Summer
Weight Watchers Session

The Lab's on-site Weight Watchers group will begin a new session on Wednesday. The group meets every Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m. Cost for the 14-week session is $167.30, which can be paid in three installments of $55.77. Nano-Imprint
Makes Its Mark

A memory chip made using nano-imprint lithography

Although most of the semiconductor industry is still learning to build chips with circuits as narrow as 90 nanometers, Hewlett-Packard researcher Stan Williams is using a novel process called nano-imprint lithography to make experimental memory chips with tiny electrical pathways less than half that size. The deterrents to this technology include the difficulty of obtaining high-quality molds and the need for better tools to precisely align multiple layers of circuits.
