Cyber Threats Increase
During Holiday Weekend

Traditionally, hackers take advantage of long weekends to stage attacks, particularly on systems running UNIX, including Linux. The Computer Protection Program (CPP) urges all employees to: examine your logs and find out who's been logging into your system; see what processes are running; keep current with patching; disable unused accounts; register your account in the NETS database; and shut down your system, if possible. In case of emergency, contact CPP staff.

In 'Science Today'

Berkeley Lab scientist Bill Fisk, head of Environmental Energy Technologies Division's Indoor Environment Department, was featured this week on the CBS radio news program Science Today, produced by the University of California. The piece looks at his involvement with a National Academy of Sciences review on the hazards of mold growth in buildings. Go here to listen.

Historic UC Staff Meeting
At Berkeley This Week

The Council of University of California Staff Assemblies (CUCSA) has a historic meeting scheduled this week, and it will be held here in Berkeley. This month will be the first time that all 10 campuses, the UC Office of the President, and three national labs will be at the table - Livermore Lab is the most recently added member. The Council, which serves as a communications vehicle for issues of concern to UC staff employees, will be on the UC Berkeley campus on Thursday and in Berkeley Lab's Perseverance Hall on Friday (9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.). Construction Tie-Ups
At Building 90

Due to the replacement of a guardrail and retaining wall near Building 90, traffic and parking restrictions will be in place, as needed, starting tomorrow through Sept. 30.
