   New
                          Bus PassProcedures Issued
  Starting
Jan. 3, the bus pass for events form will have a new
look, replacing the current form that will no longer
be honored by shuttle bus drivers. In another change,
bus passes will also be faxed to visitors by the Site
Access Office, and no longer by the host. The only exception
is Conference Services, which will continue to fax bus
pass forms to conference attendees. If a bus pass has
already been faxed to a visitor arriving after Jan.
                          3, contact Site
Access for instructions. Questions should be referred
to Jessica Barner or Sam C.
Houston in the Site Access Office at x4551.

 Cyber
                          Threats Increase During Holiday Weekend
 Traditionally,
hackers take advantage of long weekends to stage attacks,
particularly on systems running UNIX, including Linux.
The Computer Protection Program (CPP) urges all employees
to shut down their systems, if possible, before leaving
for the Thanksgiving holiday. Also, employees should
make sure their system’s security patches are
up to date and disable any unused accounts. In case
                          of emergency, contact CPP
                          staff.

                          Shutdown
 Begins Dec. 23

Starting on Thursday, Dec. 23 at 6 p.m., the Facilities
Division will curtail utility services to about 70 Berkeley
Lab buildings for the duration of the holiday break,
returning to normal operations (weather permitting)
on Sunday, Jan. 2, in preparation for the Lab's reopening
on Monday, Jan. 3. Researchers needing special monitoring
of experiments during the break should make sure this
information is included in the Special Needs memo submitted
to Facilities by their building manager. This memo must
be received by Facilities by Dec. 12. The Special Needs
memo and Request for Utility Interruption can be completed
                          online here.

 The
Lawrence Hall of Science Museum Store will hold a gift

gifts from the unique museum store at Lawrence Hall
of Science. Fun and educational toys, kits, and gifts
for all ages will be featured. A free “Science
is Sweet Chocolate Coin” will be awarded for each

                          Thanksgiving Closures
In an effort to allow cafeteria employees to enjoy the
Thanksgiving Holiday, the Coffee Cart will close today
at 1:30 p.m. In addition, Today at Berkeley Lab will
resume publishing on Monday, Nov. 29. Have a great Thanksgiving.
