Two Berkeley Lab scientists are among the fellows recently added to the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Materials scientist Eugene Haller was lauded for his "development of ultrapure semiconductors, including isotopically pure materials, and for the investigation of their physical and electronic properties and their device applications." Environmental Energy Technologies researcher Harvey Blanch was recognized "for broad-ranging scientific and educational contributions to biochemical engineering and biotechnology, particularly bioseparations, biothermodynamics, enzyme engineering, and transport and kinetics in microbial systems." Office 2003 Software

The Information, Technologies and Services Division is now offering a course for employees transitioning to Office 2003. The class will teach the new features of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. The Office 2003 transition class will be held next Wednesday in Building 90-0026. Participants can attend a morning (8 a.m. to noon) or an afternoon (1 to 5 p.m.) session. Berkeley RFP Briefing Draws Interest, Queries

A Department of Energy workshop last week on the draft Request for Proposals to manage the next Berkeley Lab contract drew more than 30 individuals seeking information and answers to questions. Besides representatives from the Lab and the University of California, representatives of technology and computing companies also attended. Broken Links in 'Today...' Have Been Repaired

Due to technical difficulties, yesterday's edition of Today at Berkeley Lab included broken links in the stories on changes to rules for electrical work and tips on avoiding the flu. Reminder: Voice Pagers
Shut Down Dec. 23

Due to new National Telecommunications and Information Administration regulations, the Lab's voice pager radio system will cease operations at close of business on Thursday, Dec. 23. Contact Telephone Services (x7997) to order replacement non-voice numeric and alphanumeric commercial pagers. Go here to view available pager types and monthly costs. Old voice pagers (see photos) may be turned in to the Radio Shop at Building 41 or mailed to MS 25A-119 for recycling. Call Glenn Skipper (x6125) for more information.
