Ed Miller Retirement Luncheon April 2

For 15 years, Ed Miller, a plant maintenance technician for the Facilities Division, has worked to keep a lot of Berkeley Lab folks comfortable. He is being honored at a retirement luncheon on Friday, April 2 at La Strada Italian Restaurant in San Pablo. For luncheon details, please contact Desiree Elvira, x6938, or Michael Botello, x7941, no later than March 30 at 3 p.m.

Gone!

In less than three months, the Evans Brothers demolition company reduced a six-story experimental beam hall the size of a football field to flat ground, as shown in this photo taken last week after the final framework came down. The historic Bevatron, the hall's silent neighbor, now stands alone, awaiting federal funds that will allow it, too, to retire gracefully from the hill after over 10 years of ceasing operations.

Webzine Picks Alivisatos
Researcher of Year
By Candace Stuart

Alivisatos

Nanotech’s own Michelangelo has an equally polysyllabic name: Alivisatos. Like the Renaissance sculptor, the modern-day chemist is a master of material and shape – except Alivisatos’ materials are semiconductor nanocrystals, not marble or plaster, and his shapes are dots, rods and pyramids.
