A
new worm that targets Windows systems (called "Bagle.AL"
or "Beagle.AO," depending on the anti-virus
vendor) is spreading rapidly across the Internet today.
Anti-virus vendors are now updating their products,
but until Norton AV/Symantec AV Client is updated, avoid
opening any e-mail attachment. Delete the message that
contains the attachment, even if it appears to be from
someone you know (unless you were expecting the attachment).
The new worm generates infected attachments with names
such as price.zip, price2.zip and newprice.zip. Delete
the message that contains this attachment. And above
all, avoid forwarding any such attachment to anyone
else.
Those who opened any attachment sent by this worm have
infected their systems. Immediately disconnect the system
from the network, or call the Help Desk at x4357 to
find out how it’s done.
