McGraw Will Direct Lab’s Business Services

Today marks the beginning of Fiscal Year 2004, and with it the official start of Berkeley Lab’s newest Division – Business Services. A combination of the current departments of Financial Services, Human Resources, and Administrative Services, the new organization will be directed by David McGraw, who will relinquish his roles as Division Director for Environment, Health and Safety, and Deputy to Sally Benson, Deputy Director of Operations. “It is an excellent opportunity to improve our business model and our service to Lab customers,” Benson said. More on the new Division, plus an interview with McGraw, will appear in this Friday’s issue of The View.

Atkinson Bids Farewell
to University of California

Atkinson

Richard C. Atkinson bids farewell today, his final day of an eight-year tenure as president of the University of California. “I am honored to have had the opportunity to be a part of this university community. Your skill, energy, and commitment have preserved this institution as a place where the very best students from all walks of life get a first-rate education, where cutting-edge research improves our economy and our understanding of the world around us, and where community engagement is deep and substantive.” Read the entire farewell here.

New Services Print and
Update Files Anywhere

Employees with multiple PCs, or who travel with laptops, will benefit from two services provided by the Computing Infrastructure Technologies Group that facilitate an easier way to work on or print documents at multiple locations. Both of the services – iFolder and iPrint – are currently available only to users of Windows 98, XP and 2000 systems (Linux and UNIX versions are in the works) and are based on the Novell NetStorage system, which provides a bridge between the Lab’s protected Novell storage network.
