Congresswoman Urges Support for Office of Science
Funding Bill At Nanoscience Workshop

Congresswoman Judy Biggert (R-IL), who chairs the Energy Subcommittee of the House Science Committee, urged support for H.R. 34, a bill she recently introduced that calls for DOE's Office of Science to receive an overall increase in funding of nearly 62 percent by FY2007. The Congresswoman was one of the featured speakers at last week's DOE Nanoscale Science Research Centers workshop in Washington, D.C. A full story on the workshop will appear in this week's Currents. New System Enables
Web Grid Monitoring

The innovative I-Grid power monitoring system, which enables affordable monitoring of the US electric grid, has been commercially released by SoftSwitching Technologies. According to Joe Eto, a Berkeley Lab staff scientist, "...DOE is funding a pilot I-Grid program in Silicon Valley to assess the I-Grid's efficacy for both grid-wide monitoring and economic impact assessment." Paul Alivisatos To Give Next 'Friends of Science' Presentation

Materials Sciences Division Director Paul Alivisatos will give the next "Friends of Science" presentation. His talk, entitled "Control Of Nanocrystal Shape Boosts Efficiency Of New Hybrid Solar Cells," will take place next Monday from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. To make reservations, email [email protected] or contact the Community Relations Office at X7292.
