New
Contact Lens Design
May End Daily Hassles
By Justin Lee
Contact
lenses that can be safely worn for weeks or even months at a time
took a step closer to reality with a novel type of contact lens
recently tested at UC Berkeley. A team led by UC Berkeley vision
science professor Ken Polse and chemical engineering professor Clayton
Radke, also in Berkeley Lab's Earth Sciences Division, working
with former vision science graduate student Kimberly Miller, found
that placing fenestrations, or holes, in contact lenses significantly
improved tear-mixing, thought to be an important safety factor in
long-term contact lens wear. (02/12/03) Full
