Property Management Improvement Project (PMIP) Moves Forward In September 2005 LBNL chartered a FY06 Property Management Review Committee. The Property Management Review Committee reviewed the current LBNL Property Management System. At the conclusion of this review a Property Management Review Report was issued on March 23, 2006 that outlined specific findings, comments & recommendations. A key recommendation of the report was to execute a Property Management Improvement Project (PMIP), assign a Project Manager and utilize a formal project management approach to evaluate, document and analyze problems and recommend corrective actions. The PMIP is an important project for LBNL. When executed, the PMIP will re-engineer, from cradle-to-grave, the LBNL Property Management system. The sponsors of this Project include Derrol Hammer – Procurement and Property Manager and John Morgan – Property Manager. The PMIP Team Members are compiled of the Property Management Core Team and various personnel throughout the Laboratory. In addition to the PMIP Team Members, Key Users and Stakeholders was identified to assist with data gathering phase to understand exactly what the issues and problems are and to compile recommendations for the corrective actions needed. With this data a PMIP Implementation Plan was developed. This plan is a good start but now the details need to be finalized, vetted and implemented. During the next few months the property system process flows, procedures, guidance documents and training requirements will be finalized, vetted and then implemented. The PMIP is scheduled to be implemented by December 2007. This, of course can not be done with out the input, close coordination and buy-in from the various LBNL Divisions. The PMIP Team will be working closely with the Division’s Property Representatives, Business Managers, Property Coordinators and Custodians to ensure that this change will benefit the LBNL Institution as a whole and provide for a more streamlined and improved property management system. We will also address any concerns and issues that the Division's may have. With your help this Project will be completed successfully and the property management system will be greatly improved. — Kurt Deshayes
