RE: Facilities Division Reduction In Force (RIF)
Due to budget constraints and a shift in priorities for the Facilities Division, reductions must be made to address these concerns and to achieve maximum efficiencies in our operations . Therefore, the Facilities Division is entering into a Reduction In Force (RIF) effective March 29, 2006. All hiring activity (except vacancies in job classifications not affected by the RIF and that are deemed critical by management), promotions and reclassifications are frozen until further notice.
The goals of this RIF will be to:
- Focus the new Facilities organization on our core functions and right-sizing each component.
- Significantly reduce the cost of our services to the scientific programs.
- Move from a control organization to one that is focused on service and consultation in support of the Laboratory's mission.
A call for volunteers for layoff is being issued today (March 29, 2006), and will extend through noon on April 12, 2006. Approval or disapproval of voluntary requests will be based on business needs. If selected, volunteers may be eligible to receive severance pay in accordance with Laboratory policy. Once the volunteer process is completed, other specific positions may be targeted for layoff.
Employees who are selected for involuntary layoff will be notified as soon as is practical.
If you are thinking about volunteering, please contact the HR Center. If you have any benefits-related questions, please contact the Benefits Office. Remember, you must notify and submit your volunteer request submission to the Facilities HR Center Representative (Deborah Martin, ext 5372) by noon (12:00pm) on April 12, 2006 if you want your request to be considered.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
