McGraw: Lab Reducing Waste as 'Good Neighbor and Responsible Partner'
(Remarks at Berkeley City Council meeting, March 21, 2006, following presentation of proclamation in honor of Berkeley Lab's waste reduction success)
I was thinking on the way down here tonight how good environmental policy makes economic sense and, of course, reducing waste makes economic sense.
But there is another reason the Lab engages in aggressive waste reduction, and that is to be a good neighbor and a responsible partner with the city.
Mayor Bates, this Council, and Dr. Chu have provided strong leadership for continuing and enhancing this partnership. It's our goal to continue to be a leader in efforts to eliminate the wastes.
So it is my privilege, on behalf of Dr. Chu and all the Lab employees who worked hard to achieve these goals, to accept the City's recognition tonight. Our sincere thanks.
