Fire in Berkeley, 
Lab Responds
 
		   The two-story,  five-unit apartment building on the 2600 block of Hillegass Avenue caught fire around 4  p.m. Wednesday. Within thirty minutes, it escalated to a three-alarm blaze. At  that point, Berkeley Lab's fire fighters were dispatched to the scene. 
		  
		    Working together, the  two departments brought the fire under control by 5:07 p.m. Berkeley Lab's fire  department continued to provide support while the city's team stayed on the  scene to watch for hot spots and prevent relighting. 
		    Piermattei said he  received several calls from concerned Lab employees asking about the smoke and  wondering if they should evacuate.  
		  
  "It's a good  instinct," he said, but in this situation, unnecessary.
