Protective Measures During Pipetting Activities Include :

•  Select a light-weight ergonomic pipetter sized for your hand.

•  Use anti-fatigue floor mats if standing for long periods.

•  Sit supported against the backrest of your chair.

•  Adjust your chair to the work height.

•  Work with arms close to the body to reduce strain on shoulders

•  Avoid twisting or rotating your wrist while pipetting.

•  Alternate or using both hands to pipette.

•  Hold the pipetter with a relaxed grip.

•  Consider electronic pipetters that can you can program the volume to extract and dispense (see below).

•  Take a short micro pauses or 1 to 2 minute break after every 20 minutes when pipetting.

•  Rotate pipetting tasks among several people.

Manual pipetters, left, can cause "trigger finger." Electronic versions, right, can help prevent repetitive stress injury.
