Demolition Continues; Crane and Tracks Gone

The dismantling of the External Proton Beam hall next to the Bevatron on Cyclotron Road is proceeding piece-by-piece.  Electronic Technician George Potter of the 88-Inch Cyclotron recently captured on film the removal of some of the biggest pieces of all -- a 190,000-pound bridge crane and its tracks last Thursday. The 144-foot-long crane was lowered from the crane rails using two 200-ton mobile cranes.

'Energy Hog' Youth Campaign Launched

Secretary of Energy Spencer Abraham recently launched a national public service advertising campaign designed to make children and their parents aware of energy efficient behavior through a new spokes-villain, the Energy Hog, an energy waster. Abraham said he hopes the campaign will raise awareness by developing an appreciation for energy efficiency at an early age. Go here to read a press release on the program, and here to visit the interactive Energy Hog website.
