The
Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, PNAS,
one of the world's most-cited multidisciplinary scientific
serials, is going to be free on-line to everyone around
the world. In a June 8 editorial, Nicholas Cozzarelli,
PNAS editor-in-chief, announced a new policy aimed at
providing "unfettered access" to scientific literature.
Policy changes include putting all PNAS content from
the first volume, published in 1915, to articles published
just 6 months ago, on-line and available at no charge.

DOE Will Bid Livermore,
Los Alamos Separately
The Department of Energy (DOE) has announced that it will conduct separate competitions for the management of Los Alamos and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories, both now managed by the University of California (UC). The department also announced it will extend the current contract for Livermore beyond its current September 30, 2005, expiration date in order to separate the two competitions. Go here to read DOE's press release, and here to read a statement from Robert Foley, UC Vice President for Lab Management.
