Day of Mourning For
Reagan Declared

Reagan

In honor of the passing of former President Ronald Reagan, Friday has been declared a National Day of Mourning. Berkeley Lab will remain open this Friday, but all employees are encouraged to honor the memory of the former President in their own way. There will be no lab mail delivery on Friday, since federal offices will be closed. Go here to visit the official Ronald Reagan Memorial web site, which includes access to funeral service information, a condolence book, tributes, and a memorial fund.

Bachacou

Don't Forget Your Card In Lab's ATM Machine

Thank goodness for people like Henri Bachacou, with the Lab's Physics Division. On Monday, he walked up to the ATM near the cafeteria and found an employee's card sticking out of the machine. Because the transaction had not yet closed, he could have easily absconded with the absent-minded employee's funds. Instead, Bachacou took the card back to his office, found the employee's name in the Lab's directory, then called to let her know he had the card. That eternally grateful person would like to remind all employees to retrieve their card from the ATM machine when done banking.

POLICY UPDATE

Employee Conduct and Contract Competition

The selection of a prime contractor to operate Berkeley Lab through a formal bidding process requires the existing workforce of the Laboratory to abide by certain restrictions related to that competition. Some of these restrictions are extensions of existing employee conduct requirements and others are unique to the competition itself. Go here to find out about charging time and effort and involvement with prospective bidders.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Shank Talk Available

New Notification System For Sponsored Research

Berkeley Lab's Sponsored Research Projects Office (SPO) has developed new e-mail notifications based on significant events of sponsored research award expiration, closeout, and funding levels. The first messages will be sent today. Go here to read about the key events and the notification schedule. Go here to read about summary information regarding a specific sponsored projects award. The report can be accessed by division or award. Call or e-mail Phyllis Gale (x6618) with questions about E-Notifications or the Award Management Report.
