Wonder About FY04 Budget? Stay Tuned...

When Congress returns to work next week, it will immediately confront legislation left over from last year. Seven major appropriations bills remain stuck in the Senate that would provide FY 2004 funding for science-related programs, including the Department of Energy. The energy policy bill, which contains strong authorization numbers for the DOE Office of Science, is bogged down. Finding the votes to pass these bills has been difficult, and the prognosis is very unclear. Full story.

12-kv Generator Testing Starts on Tuesday

The Facilities Electrical Department will be testing the Lab's 2-megawatt, 12-kilovolt generator beginning next Tuesday. All Lab loads will be transferred to Bus 1 for functional testing on Bus 2; then to Bus 2 for functional testing on Bus 1. On Jan. 21 all Lab loads will be transferred back to their normal configurations. A hill public address announcement will be made prior to the transfers, which will be transparent to the Laboratory community. Interruption of power is unlikely, but since the possibility always exists, take all necessary precautions. For additional information, contact Jim Murphy at 4175 or Mahesh Gupta at 5220.

Traveling Resource Center
