Instructions for Calling for Help in an Emergency
LOOK at the sticker on your phone.
- The Berkeley Lab phones on the internal phone system - including Donner and Calvin - call 7911 . This number goes to the Alameda County Fire Dispatch office, located at Livermore Lab.
- From NERSC in Oakland or JGI in Walnut Creek, the sticker on the phone says to call 9911 . The " 9 " gets to an outside line, and the " 911 " connects to the local "911" call center.
TELL the dispatchers where you are. Because they are located off-site, they do not automatically know where you are calling from.
- Tell them you are located at Berkeley Lab, the building number and room number, or
- Tell them you are located at Berkeley Lab, Calvin or Donner on the UC Berkeley campus, or
- If you are at another location, give them the address you are calling from.
CELL PHONES are different.
- To reach the Berkeley Lab emergency dispatch from a cell phone, call 486-6015.
- DON'T DIAL 486-7911 on a cell phone. It is an incorrect listing.
- Be aware that dialing 911 on a cell phone connects to the CHP dispatch center in Vallejo.
MORE INFORMATION is available in the Employee Pocket Guide to Emergency Preparedness at Berkeley Lab, available by calling the Emergency Preparedness program at x7032 or visit the EP website.
