Alber, of the Physical Biosciences Division,
and Douglas Clark, in Environmental
Energy Technologies Division, were recently inducted
into the American Association for the Advancement of
Science (AAAS). This group is the world's largest general
federation of scientists and the publisher of the journal
"Science." Members are selected by their peers
"because of their efforts to advance science or
applications that are deemed scientifically or socially
distinguished." Go here

Asked to Give To SHARES Campaign
Today
marks the start of the Lab’s SHARES annual charitable
giving campaign. A web-based system of pledging replaces
the old paper packet process. To give to a favorite
charity, visit the SHARES
website and read the instructions for navigating
the electronic form. To ensure security of all information,
donors will need to insert a ten-digit user code –
employee number plus home zip code – and create
their own password. E-mail [email protected]
with questions regarding the campaign or donation process. |

Help for
Open Enrollment
During
this year’s Open Enrollment session (Nov.
1-30), employees must use the Internet to make
changes to their healthcare plans. To assist staff
with this new system, benefits-office representatives
will be on hand at the Building 51L computer lab
Nov. 11 and 18, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Nov.
25, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Computer assistance
is also available by appointment at the ASD Academy
(contact Sue Bowen at x6907). Computer
access will be offered throughout the month in
the second-floor reception area of Building 6,
and the first-floor lobby of Building 937. The
first of three general information sessions will
be held this Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in Building
2-100B.
Building
31 Road
Closes for Repair
Work
will start this week on rerouting and resurfacing
the road through the corporation yard adjacent
to Building 31. The road from Lot W to the lower
switchback bench areas will be closed to traffic
for approximately two weeks, affecting parking
in the yard and access to the lower storage areas.

Network
Security
Course to be Offered The
Computer Protection Program is offering a course, "Network
Security," to help Lab system administrators, security
liaisons, network operations staff, and others understand
and apply principles of securing networks and their
components. Go here
to read a course description. The class runs from 9
a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 19, in Bldg. 50F-1647.
Enrollment is free, but space is limited. Go here
to register.
Give
the Gift
of Life: Blood The
American Red Cross Blood Services and Berkeley Lab are
once again asking employees to take a few moments out
of their busy schedules to donate a unit of blood this
Wednesday (8 a.m. to 2 p.m.) and Thursday, (7:30 a.m.
to 1:30 p.m.) in Building 70A-3377. Donors are encouraged
to schedule appointments on the BeADonor
website using company code "LBL." Walk-in
donors are accepted after 10 a.m., if space is available.
