Over the next 25 years, total electricity consumption in the United States is estimated to go up a dramatic 50 percent. To address this growing energy need, scientists like Chris Marnay at Berkeley Lab are developing a new approach to power generation and reliability, which they call the CERTS Microgrid. The University of California radio service, Science Today, featured Marnay in a CBS report, which can be heard (with RealPlayer software) here.
